About the project

War leaves its mark not only in memories but also in the body, movement, speech, sleep, psychological well-being, and a person’s ability to return to normal life.

That is why at the IOANNIV CENTER, we are developing a comprehensive veterans’ rehabilitation program. It is specifically designed for Ukraine’s defenders who require professional functional recovery after wounds, injuries, surgeries, and the long-term consequences of combat operations.

The program combines physical therapy, ergotherapy, hand therapy, gait retraining, psychological support, pain management, and the restoration of fine motor skills, self-care abilities, and the capacity to return to an active lifestyle.

We work with more than just the physical body. Our goal is to help individuals regain control over their own lives, restore their independence and confidence, and give them back the opportunity to be there for their families, work, move freely, and live life to the fullest.

Who the Program Helps

Support within the veterans’ program is provided to:

  • male and female veterans recovering from wounds;
  • patients recovering from blast and mine-explosive injuries;
  • individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and concussions;
  • military personnel following surgeries and prolonged inpatient treatment;
  • veterans with gait, coordination, and balance impairments;
  • patients experiencing contractures, pain syndromes, and limb damage;
  • amputee patients at the pre-prosthetic preparation stage;
  • veterans during the stage of adapting to and using prosthetic limbs;
  • defenders with chronic pain in the back, joints, and limbs;
  • families of veterans in need of psychological guidance and support;

What the Program Includes

Each course is tailored individually by the center’s multidisciplinary team and may include:

  • consultation with a doctor of physical and rehabilitation medicine (PRM);
  • physical therapy;
  • ergotherapy (hand therapy);
  • gait and balance training;
  • strength and endurance conditioning;
  • pre-prosthetic training;
  • functional prosthetic training and adaptation;
  • pain management therapy;
  • psychological support;
  • sensorimotor restoration;
  • adaptation to daily domestic and professional workloads;
  • guidelines and recommendations for home-based rehabilitation continuation.

For many veterans, rehabilitation does not end after being discharged from the hospital. It is a long-term, regular, and properly structured program that determines whether a person will return to:

  • independent mobility;
  • employment;
  • driving a car;
  • family life;
  • social activity;
  • independence in daily routines.

Unfortunately, long-term recovery is frequently financially out of reach. This is precisely why the IOANNIV CENTER is expanding this charitable initiative, ensuring that veterans can receive the vital care they need regardless of their personal ability to pay.

Every contribution to the veterans’ program provides:

  • additional therapy sessions for a defender;
  • gait restoration after an injury;
  • pre-prosthetic preparation;
  • recovery of hand functionality;
  • pain reduction;
  • a real chance to return to a fulfilling life.

Your donation is a direct and tangible step toward the recovery of a person who stood to defend our country.
